Was speaking with Matt last night- and yes- Okyanos will probably start treating cardiac patients at the UMC in Utrecht Holland in May.

The neatest news he brought was really when we started talking of the Takamura video- the Japanese lady who could not "communicate" with her husband any longer due to cardiac issues, was treated with Cytori Cell Therapy (CCT)

Actually she gave birth to a child a few years back- and seems to be doing fine

Simply amazing...

For those who do not know the video:

I put it at the bottom of a cardiac page- Takamura Video

Fantastic for her !
I am truely happy she could be helped but as you said this was years ago and little has happened that we can sink our teeth into
Silence from forgein cardiac trials.
ADVANCE trial shut down
ATHENA results now 2015 (who didnt see that coming) Not counting a additional dosing cohort added and endless delays.
Precise data....how many times have we heard that was coming...though seems like it finally gets printed soon. (maybe if I consider history)
Possible changes in endpoints for a US FDA cardiac pivitol...jury out on if this will be a positive or negative imho !

We need some meat on the bone to show the world because to date NO ONE gives a damn !!!!!!!!!! :puke:  :bash:  :really:

Fas, great video with further anecdotal confirmation of what we already know. I hope that more substantial trials have been undertaken in Japan since then, otherwise what's the point? The silence is deafening.

What I find intriguing is the possibility of Okyanos treating patients at UMC Utrecht. I wonder how this can be done given that it is a public educational/medical institution. I assume that the patients would be referred to the university hospital and accredited doctors by Okyanos, with the university sharing in the income. If true, the fact that this sort of operation/procedure can be undertaken in an advanced european country, legally, even if not yet reimbursed is a HUGE positive. :woohoo:

It is tangible confirmation of the financial benefit accruing from the approval of this procedure by the medical authorities. It will provide validation for the authorisation of comparable practices in a large number of other countries/regions that use/depend on european leadership in medical regulatory guidance/regulation. This development if it comes will clearly highlight the difference in approach between the USA and Europe.

In the USA we can only use the Celution device for research/trial purposes. However there is a huge amount of illegal (as per FDA guidelines) operations/treatments being used with uncertain procedures, devices and treatment protocols. Celution provides a level of standardisation and transparency that is totally missing from all other practitioners ................. and is approved for use in Europe. :joy:

There are a lot of rich people within Europe that can very quickly provide a wealth of registry data. Also there are lots of elderly, middle class and poorer people who desire to live a humane life.............. and who although may not have as much money, do have votes. I appreciate that the term socialist has a very negative connotation in the American psyche so perhaps the term "egalitarian" may be more palatable. It will be Europe and Japan's more egalitarian approach that will lead to the rollout of this technology. And hopefully give me the chance to :vegas:

John- not in Japan presumably. Remember Hedrick told us they have that institution where you have to apply for a study and the riskier the application is- the lower the number of patients. The lady that could not communicate was a single person study- done in 2009.
Than Nagoya got approval to do two more in 2011 I believe- probably same Professor that did the 40 PAD patients, which study should be finished now. PAD is not immediately life threatening

No- my guess - the big studies are in India and China...maybe Australia too.

Anyway- on UMC- since it is under the Okyanos banner- Matt can send patients there and also do some "promotions". He has hired excellent staff in my view to be successful.
Key is that the Dutch accepted the UK approvals without conditions. Even not a registry. Although the patients will be recorded in the Cytori registry. This bodes well- especially if they can extend to Germany. I know the rules and laws of Germany very well now and it is much easier to get reimbursement than in the UK. Another strategic Cytori Management mistake to select the UK instead of Germany for app development.

Anyway- Europe will develop "itself" I believe. Focus on Japan is OK though. A lot more exciting.
